This chart lists every TDS row held in the TDS code finder for FY 2026-27 (1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027): the old 1961-Act section, the Income-tax Act 2025 reference (s.392 or the s.393 table entry), the four-digit payment code as used by the Income-tax e-filing portal, the rate and the threshold. The chart and the finder render the same data array, so the two pages cannot disagree; where the finder holds no single rate (salary, non-resident payments) the chart says "see section" rather than inventing one.

How to read the chart
- Threshold rules. "Aggregate" thresholds apply to the year's total paid or credited to one deductee; "single" to each payment; "per month" to the month's rent; the contractor rows (old 194C) test both the single bill and the year's aggregate. "Above" thresholds (old 194Q, 194N) tax only the amount over the limit.
- Rate column. Where the rate depends on the deductee (insurance commission, old 194D) both rates are shown. "See section" means the finder holds no single rate: salary is at slab rates on estimated annual income (s.392), and non-resident payments (old s.195) follow the rate in force and the DTAA, with Form 145 / 146 before remittance (checker).
- No PAN. The higher of the specified rate, the rate in force, or 20% (s.397(2)); 5% floor for old 194Q and 194O, shown in the note column.
- Outside the chart. Rent by individuals not under audit (old 194IB), property purchase (old 194IA) and old 194M, which are paid through Form 141, and TCS (s.394).
- Classification is not decided here. Whether a payment is a works contract or a service, professional or technical, is a facts question for the deductor and the CA; the TDS calculator handles gross-up and already-paid cases and the interest and late-fee calculator the cost of a late deposit.
Deposit and return dates
TDS deducted in a month is deposited by the 7th of the next month, and by 30 April for March deductions; quarterly statements (Form 138 [24Q], Form 140 [26Q], Form 144 [27Q]) are due 31 July, 31 October, 31 January and 31 May, as carried on the month-end close checklist and the compliance chart. The payment-codes guide covers the challan (ITNS 281N), the forms and the transition for deductions that straddle 31 March 2026. The TDS module in K-Finance records deductions party by party with these codes and matches challans to deductions; deposits and statements are filed by you on the official portals.
Frequently asked questions
Is this chart the same as the TDS code finder?
Yes. Both pages render the same data array: this chart is a static view of every row in the finder, and the finder's CSV export carries the same rows. If a rate on one page differs from the other, the array has been updated on one page only; report it and use the finder.
Which rate applies when the deductee has no PAN?
The higher of the specified rate, the rate in force, or 20% (Income-tax Act 2025, s.397(2)); for purchase of goods (old 194Q) and e-commerce payments (old 194O) the floor is 5%. The chart shows the floor in the last column where it differs.
Why does the chart say "see section" for salary and section 195?
Salary TDS (s.392) is computed on estimated annual income at slab rates, and payments to non-residents (old s.195) depend on the nature of income, the rate in force and the DTAA. The finder holds no single rate for them, so the chart does not invent one.
Are Budget 2026 changes included?
Not yet. TDS on manpower supply treated as work, the MACT-interest exemption and the TCS changes on LRS announced in Budget 2026 are not in the array; the chart shows the Finance Act 2025 values carried into the 2025 Act. The page will be updated with the Finance Act 2026 provisions and their effective dates once the owner confirms them.
Are the four-digit codes prescribed by law?
No notification prescribing them was located. They are the nature-of-payment classifications used on the e-filing portal's challan screen and in the TDS statements; two published lists differ on some rows. The chart shows the list as used by the Income-tax e-filing portal; confirm against your TRACES/challan screen.
